Via River

Coming from the Midwest, I'm often floored by the clarity of the water and the idyllic pools that suddenly plunge off of sheer cliffs and into manky, retentive, and otherwise unpleasant hydraulics.

A working girl again

Finally I've started actually working at work... doing real "worky" things like making maps and cutting down stands of Himalayan Blackberry with a machete. Sometimes I'm a little suprized that I'm given access to things like machetes and axes by these gentle people. I was even more suprized when two days ago, my expected target gave way and the machete hit me in the leg! Fortunately, no damage was done, except to someone else's rainpants that I'd borrowed for the day. No worries, they were gov't issue. Yesterday we knocked on doors all day long, asking for permission to look at the shoreline near people's houses to check for Japanese Knotweed. I get a real kick out of the gov't issue truck we get to use: a big baby-blue Ford Expedition. The three of us rattle around like peas in a coffee can in this thing as we chug out to Sandy and back in it.

This morning for fun I went to fill my gear needs at the local paddling shop and met a few nice paddlers. All I had to do was smile at the cuttie carrying his Prion embudo through the shop and say "nice boat" and suddenly I had his name, and his friend's name, and my little mind started to race: oh my goodness, oh my goodness... it's raining hot boater boys!
